Probation in India
Probation was first seen under Section 562 of Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898 where in first time offenders convicted for a punishment of less than two-years of imprisonment could be released on probation of good conduct at the discretion of the Court. Children are also included in the ambit of Probation under Children Act, 1908 and later in Children Act, 1960 and Juvenile Justice Act, 1986.
Now, offenders under not just Indian Penal Code, 1860 but also under other enactments.
