Police are an important part of the criminal justice system. They are responsible for the maintenance of peace and the enforcement of law and order within their territorial jurisdiction.

Police are a body of civil servants whose primary duties are prevention of order, prevention and detection of crimes and enforcement of law. They are responsible for investigation and interrogation.

The police comes first in the administration of the criminal justice and will be followed by the court and prison.

According to Ernest Fround, the police system was initially established for the promoting of public welfare by restraining and regulating the use of property and liberty of persons.
