The Supreme Court of Iran / High Council of the Judiciary is the highest court of justice in the country.
The legal code is based on Shi'a Islamic law or sharia along with civil law in many areas.
The Ministry of Justice of the Islamic Republic of Iran is responsible for matters concerning the relationship between the judiciary on the one hand and the executive and the legislative branches on the other hand, and its minister is elected by the Islamic Consultative Assembly from among those proposed to the president by the head of Judiciary.
